Footy update
It's a concise update; the Woodleigh girls absolutely dominated! 112 to 1.
The Junior Girls team are a force, good sports always and humble in their crushing victories. GO GIRLS.

Go, Hughie!
Hughie competed in his first-ever Singing Eisteddfod this week. If you've ever seen Hughie perform, you'll know he gets up there and gets the job done, no fuss and no bother. And guess what, not only did he do well - HE WON.
Singing Sweet Child of Mine, the adjudicator said she felt as though she was at his rock concert. When Hughie found out he'd come first, he was 'shocked and excited.' Hughie, good on you, we are all thrilled for you.

Elephant Ed
Let's talk about the elephant in the room.
Elephant Ed provides evidence-based, age-appropriate Consent and Respectful Relationships workshops, tried and tested across all relevant age groups. 'For Young People, By Young People.' Years 7-10 have different sessions, and they give feedback afterwards. 96% of Year 7 gave a 'thumbs up' to the session, and 99% of Year 8 did the same.
Considering the high awkwardness stakes, that's an excellent result.

To read this week
Take a moment to read Hannah Watts' words, because they are beautiful. Hannah is our MYP and VCE teacher at Woodleigh.
'English is Compulsory. Language is Inescapable'

Who rules the school?
It's not always the grown-ups. Even when the grown-up is your Principal. Mr Baker spent time at Penbank's ECC at their very beck and call.

Chumkriel Language School - alumni revisit
A good news message from Mr Adams.
Earlier in the year and over the recent holidays, some of our past students returned to teach English at Chumkriel Language School. This has happened a number of times over the years. It’s so nice to see our past students continuing to build on the opportunities we provided them as part of the Broadening Horizons program.
Also worth noting is that, despite backpacking in parts of Asia, they remembered to bring 'business style' shirts to wear to school!
Another footy update!
Harvey and Rupert coached and umpired the Year 7 and 8s footy game at Penbank - and did a great job. The atmosphere was charged - Penbank students, siblings and friends cheering them on. During the break, our players chatted with Penbank students, even signing autographs at three-quarter time. The match was played in great spirit by both teams, and Woodleigh did alright, winning 101 to 13!

Debating News
As the DAV regional competition wraps up, Woodleigh shone across all grades. Our A Grade team, Char, Matthew and Danny, won an exceptional debate arguing against strike rights for public transport workers. B Grade’s Allegra, Hywel and Charlie also triumphed, debating at A Grade level and now heading to the B Grade finals. C Grade’s Isaac, Sam, Rufus and Joe await final results after a strong performance despite some tough adjudications. Our D Grade teams have completed their season with pride and personal growth. Special mention to Milly, who earned Best Speaker in nearly every debate. Lastly, our VCE team, Lachlan, Leila, Nadia, Ajax and Moscow, deserve congratulations for their commitment in Year 12.
Assembly at Minimbah
This week at Minimbah, it was Year 3s turn to hold assembly. They served sliders and tacos - from food trucks!

Sailing Team
Over the school holidays, Woodleigh’s sailing team competed at the Australian Secondary Schools Teams Sailing Championship in Goolwa, South Australia. It marks their second consecutive year at the national event, following a strong showing at the state championships earlier in the season. The team delivered an impressive finish to the regatta, winning 11 of their last 15 races and climbing the rankings to secure 12th place overall! It was just one win shy of qualifying for the finals. Their determination was outstanding. Congratulations to everyone involved.

Until we go around the grounds again next week.
