Dear Year 10 families,

At the end of Term Two this year all of our Year 10 students have a week of work experience as the culmination of the  “Future of Work” Unit in the Regenerative Futures Program. We have been discussing this with the students over the past few months, introducing the topic in Broadening Horizons week last year, and giving the students tips on how they can source work experience.

This year, tutors have been discussing this with the students and encouraging them to source their desired work experience locations as soon as possible. There are a couple of reasons for this;

  • Firstly, there are a number of schools on the Mornington Peninsula who will run work experience programs in the first half of the year. This means there will be competition for placements, and the sooner students contact employers, the more likely they are to get a positive response.
  • Secondly, there is a large amount of administrative and safety work which will have to happen before students can attend their work placement. An electronic contract will be emailed and will have to be signed by the employer, child, parent/guardian and by Mr Baker. Each workplace will also be visited to conduct a workplace health and safety check prior to students attending the work experience placement.

As you can imagine, this will take time, and we want to ensure this process is not rushed to support the safety of our students. To assist with this, we are asking students to provide the details of their work experience placement via a Microsoft Form (students have been emailed this link to their Woodleigh email account). These details are required by the end of camps week, Friday 7 March, to ensure we can begin scheduling the workplace visits and to generate the required work experience contracts.

The work experience dates for 2025 are Monday 23 to Friday 27 June.

Students have been advised to initiate the contact with employers, as this usually results in a more positive response and tends to streamline the process (as employers will often want to chat to the student before they confirm the placement anyway). However, they are welcome to visit careers for support if required.

Kind regards,

Shannon Maher and Kat Blick
