Letter Home - Week 9 Term 4

The last week of Term 4 is a very special time to reflect on the year.

Involving many wonderful experiences, 2019 has certainly been an amazing year of growth and learning. We all love Woodleigh’s focus on the Arts during Term 4, which provided a terrific springboard into our PYP Unit of Inquiry, ‘How We Express Ourselves.’

Regardless of age and stage, learning is lifelong, and it is through our interactions and work with each other that learning continues to extend what we know and do. Through our interactions, we teach, support, encourage and learn. Our team approach enables us to work and learn in an environment of mutual respect and collaboration. We are all partners in learning and I thank everyone for your personal contribution that has enabled us to develop the skills, knowledge and ideas of ourselves and most importantly, the children.

The CREATE Electives Program certainly highlighted the growth of students in every way.

The final showcase, ‘Who Let the Gods Out?’ exemplified a momentous development of skills. Script writing, acting, memorising lines and songs, choreography, dance, design and problem solving, special effects and stage management were a few of the many areas that children could delve into and create! Understanding concepts by studying the ancient Greek Gods and learning through mystical stories, poetry and songs all added to the challenge of developing a very big theatrical performance that involved all children from Prep to Year 6. A mammoth undertaking!

Consistently throughout the term, we observed engaged and motivated children who grew in confidence every day. Children bravely extended themselves and tried new things. They loved their costumes and had so much fun!

The whole school community is to be congratulated. As well as the teachers, I congratulate all Year 6 students who were exemplary in their leadership. As a staff, we could absolutely rely on this group of students to co-operate, take charge when necessary, help with tasks and support younger ones. In addition to their amazing skills, they were wonderful role models. It is with absolute pleasure that we applaud these students and send them on their next educational journey with pride and our very best wishes for continued success.

Our gratitude is extended to Katherine Gordon for her inspiration in leading, ‘Who Let the Gods Out?’ and our Performance Arts program.
