Welcome Back to Term 3 2019
Welcome back after the holidays and to Term 3 2019! I hope all families were able to relax and rejuvenate during the holidays.
I was lucky enough to spend a few days away exploring the McLaren Vale in South Australia before spending some time last week in Perth at the biennial Reggio Emilia Australia Information Exchange Conference. I was fortunate to participate in presentations from Italian educators from Reggio Emilia as well as a variety of speakers from across Australia. Holding true to a strong image of the child and the overriding principal of valuing childhood were two very strong themes at the conference which personally resonate with me as an educator and leader of young children.
As we continue to implement the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program, staff were immersed in two days of professional development on Monday and Tuesday this week. Our Own Director of Teaching and Learning and PYP Coordinator, Ms Jodie Kirchner was supported by two international presenters, Tania Mansfield who is currently the PYP Coordinator at the International School of Ho Chi Minh City and Rizza Nowelle Angeles from the Beacon School in the Philippines. The three PYP Trainers, provided all teachers and support staff from both Junior Campuses with rich and engaging professional learning to challenge and extend their understanding of the PYP.
As a follow-up to the staff professional learning, we invite all parents to an information evening about the PYP which will be held on Tuesday 6 August at the Penbank Campus commencing at 7pm. You will be provided with an opportunity to learn more about the program, its approaches to teaching and learning and our plans for its implementation. I look forward to seeing you there. Please see the separate flyer for registration details.
Year 5 head off on Wednesday for their three-day study tour at Sovereign Hill. They will immerse themselves in 1850’s gold rush experiences and we look forward to them sharing their learning with us later in the term.
A reminder for Year 5 parents of tomorrow night's parent information evening focusing on the Health and Human Development program that will be rolled out for Year 5 students over the next few weeks. Annie Rose from Lift Education will outline the program and answer all your questions about sex education at the Minimbah Campus.
Please let us know if you will be attending by emailing Kerrie at Reception.
If you haven’t already done so, please follow the instructions set out below to make a time to see classroom teachers for the next round of Parent/Teacher Interviews which will be held on Tuesday 23 July and Wednesday 24 July (Tuesday and Wednesday next week).
Interviews will be held in Pathways.
Interviews will be of 15 minutes duration.
To book a time with class teachers, you will need to access our internet-based booking system called Parent Teacher Online (PTO). The system is ready to take appointments now.
The system will allow you to book an interview time that suits you best from any internet-connected computer or device. If you have any issues connecting, you may contact Kerrie in the Minimbah Office on 9788 6488 to make an appointment.
Please access Parent Teacher Online as follows:
- Click on this link to access PTO
- Go to the School’s home page: www.woodleigh.vic.edu.au
- You will find a link to PTO under the Minimbah tab (Parent Resources) on the home page
- Click the Parent Teacher Online (Minimbah)
- Obtain your PIN/password as instructed on the PTO homepage.
Go to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and download the PTO App. You will need to enter our unique school code which is 48990 to access the Minimbah Campus PTO.
Full instructions are provided to you after login. Please note the following points:
- When you log on, the system displays only your child/children.
- You will only see time slots which are available at the time you are using the system. As time slots are booked for teachers, those time slots are no longer displayed as available. PTO prevents double-booking of teachers or parents.
- When you have made all the bookings you require, you can print a report of your bookings in time order. You can log in and change bookings any time up until 11.00pm the day before the interview.
- Other parents may be making bookings at the same time that you are using the system. It is possible, though unlikely, that a time slot is displayed to you as available, but is then booked by another parent shortly afterwards. If you then attempt to book this time slot, it will not be available, and a message will be displayed to indicate this.
- If you encounter any problems using PTO, please contact us in the office, or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The next meeting of the PFG will be an evening meeting to be held in the staffroom on Wednesday 31 July from 7.00pm. All welcome to attend.
Our next informal afternoon music soiree will be held in the Music Centre after school on Tuesday 6 August. Students learning instruments both here at school and outside the school are invited to share their learning in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Now in its eighth year, The Woodleigh School Comedy Night is the Minimbah Campus PFG's largest community fun(draising) event.

In preparation for next term I have some holiday homework for you … knitting a beanie! I would love students and families to contribute to this year’s Beanie Festival. I have attached a simple beanie pattern. There are plenty more online!
Here’s a little video to get you started if you are like me and don’t know how to knit. 😊
