What is a Woodleigh School Scholarship?

A Woodleigh School Scholarship provides partial financial support towards tuition fees for students who demonstrate a strong alignment with the School’s values and scholarship criteria.

  • Scholarships typically cover 25–50% of tuition fees only
  • Scholarships are tenable through to the end of Year 12
  • Additional school costs, including the Student Entry Fee, building fee, consolidated charges, camps, uniforms and books, are not included
  • In some cases, 100% private music tuition is included as part of the Jago Performing Arts Scholarship

Who can apply?

Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate both capability and a strong commitment to Woodleigh’s culture and values.

Eligible students include:

  • Australian citizens or permanent residents
  • Students entering Years 5, 7 or 10 in 2028
  • Students with a strong desire to learn and engage
  • Students willing to participate fully in school life
  • Students showing emerging leadership qualities and a commitment to service
  • Students able to demonstrate academic performance
  • Students prepared to make a meaningful contribution to the application process

What scholarships are available?

Woodleigh offers a diverse range of scholarships to recognise a variety of strengths and contributions:

  • Academic Excellence
  • Principal’s Community and Culture
  • Henderson Sustainability and Regenerative
  • Jago Performing Arts
  • Visual Arts
  • First Nations Scholarship (Applications open the year prior to Year 7 commencement. There are no scholarships available in 2027.)

When do scholarships open and close?

Scholarship timelines generally follow this cycle:

  • May–June: Applications open
  • August–September: Compulsory scholarship testing
  • September: Testing results shared with families
  • September–October: First round of interviews and auditions

Is there a cost to apply?

Yes. All applicants must:

  • Submit a Woodleigh Enrolment Application – $100
  • Register with Edutest for Year 5 – $65
  • Register with Edutest for Years 7 and 10 – $99

Both steps are required for your application to be valid.

Can a student apply for more than one scholarship?

Please select the scholarship that best aligns with your application. The Scholarship Panel may choose to award a different scholarship if it is deemed more appropriate.

How competitive are scholarships?

Woodleigh Scholarships are highly competitive, particularly the Academic Excellence Scholarship.

  • Over 100 applications were received in 2025
  • Approximately 10% were awarded
  • Higher value scholarships are the most competitive

Strong preparation and early planning are strongly recommended.

What is included in a scholarship?

Woodleigh Scholarships provide:

  • Partial remission of tuition fees (typically 25–50%)
  • Tenure through to completion of Year 12

What is expected of scholarship students?

Receiving a Woodleigh Scholarship is both a privilege and a responsibility.

Scholarship recipients are expected to:

  • Act as leaders within the community
  • Uphold Woodleigh’s values of Respect for Self, Others and the Environment
  • Participate in an annual scholarship review meeting conducted with a member of the Woodleigh Leadership Team, structured as a mentoring and reflection opportunity
  • Contribute to our School until the completion of Year 12

What documents are required?

To support your child’s scholarship application, we recommend gathering all required supporting documents before commencing the form. You will have the opportunity to upload the following:

  • A passport-type photo of the applicant for proof of identity
  • A parent cover letter outlining the student’s qualities and achievements
  • The last two full school reports
  • NAPLAN results (optional)
  • Letters of recommendation from the student’s School Principal, teacher, tutor, coaches or community representatives
  • Evidence of leadership, service initiatives, contributions to community, awards, certifications or performances
  • A 30-second student video or short written piece on how the student would like to make a difference in the world
  • For the Jago Performing Arts Scholarship, evidence of a high standard of performance in music or drama
  • For the Visual Arts Scholarship, examples of artwork

Important: The cut-off date for supporting documentation cannot be extended.

Scholarship testing – what to expect

All applicants must sit the scholarship test. This helps ensure an equitable assessment of all students.

Tests include:

Ability Tests

  • Verbal Reasoning – 30 minutes
    Measures the ability to think and reason using words and language. This includes vocabulary, word relationships, classification and deduction.

  • Numerical Reasoning – 30 minutes
    Measures the ability to think and reason using numbers. This includes series, matrices, arithmetical reasoning and deduction.

Achievement Tests

  • Reading Comprehension – 30 minutes
    Measures the capacity to read and interpret meaning from written passages, as well as correct, complete and punctuated sentences.

  • Mathematics – 30 minutes
    Measures year-level appropriate mathematical knowledge, including items covering numbers, measurement, algebra, space and data.

  • Written Expression – 15 minutes
    Assesses the ability to convey ideas clearly in written form. Punctuation, creativity, construction, grammar, spelling and relevance to the task are assessed.

Do we offer remote scholarship testing?

Yes. Edutest supports remote testing for families living interstate or overseas. This process can take a few weeks for families to organise supervision arrangements, so we encourage you to begin the process as early as possible.

Conditions:

  • Supervised by an independent supervisor
  • Arranged by parents with a supporting school
  • Registration required (usually 2 weeks before application closing)

What happens if a student is unwell on testing day?

Students should not attend if they have COVID or flu-like symptoms.

If a student cannot attend due to illness:

  • Email [email protected] and [email protected] before 9.00am
  • Provide a medical certificate covering the test date by 12.00pm the next business day
  • A make-up test will be arranged the following week during school hours

Scholarship testing day – practical information

Parents:
  • Sign students in

  • Are welcome to attend the Principal’s presentation and campus tour

  • Please note that late arrivals will not be permitted entry to the test

  • Finishing time: 12.00pm

What should students bring — or not bring?

Please bring:

  • Water bottle
  • Required medication (to be handed to the Enrolments team)
  • Snacks if dietary requirements apply (nut free)

Please do not bring:

  • Mobile phones or watches
  • Stationery or calculators
  • Food (unless dietary requirements apply)

What happens after testing?

Following scholarship testing:

  • Results are shared with families
  • The Scholarship Panel selects interview candidates
  • Interviews are held a few weeks after the scholarship testing
  • Offers are made at the Principal’s discretion
  • A $900 Student Entry Fee secures enrolment once an offer is accepted
  • All families are notified of outcomes by the end of October
