Let's be Friends

Buddy Program: the long-standing Minimbah tradition. For our littlest students in Foundation, it means a familiar face and a kind hand are always close by. For our Year 6s, it’s one of their first opportunities of the year to lead through care and connection. As Claire, a part of last year's Buddy Program, put it, "Once you know you are expected to be a leader, straight away you stand tall."

This year, the baton has passed, and a new wave of leaders and mentors – given the responsibility – suddenly knows exactly what to do with it.

Speak up, I can’t hear you. How many days? 

100! 100 days of Prep for these Penbank and Minimbah kids. 

What a difference a hundred days can make. 100 school days ago, everything was new, everything was different, backpacks were clean and shiny. And now, these same kids are old hats at this school stuff. They know the quickest route through the playground without squashing the garden, which toilet doesn't flush properly and who to tell that you left your lunchbox on the back seat of your dad's car. Little things that all add up to big days. They also know how to read words and how numbers go together, how to help their friends when they’re sad or stuck or left their violin outside near the slide. They know so many things about each other; who hates bananas, who loves pickles and the colour blue. 100 days is a big milestone and we couldn’t be prouder of you preppies.

How many ways can you weave maths into your week?

It's was Maths Week at Senior Campus - and the answer is so many. 

There were limericks: 
I need to consider what rhymes with addition
I am no Maths teacher, no statistician
Will I weave some last minute magic?
Can I do it, defy some logic?
I really hope this comes to fruition.

+ daily problems:
A jar contains only 5 cent and 10 cent coins, totalling 45 coins worth $3.75. How many of each coin are in the jar?

+ scavenger hunts, escape rooms, a timestable competition (Ms. O annihilated, btw) + more daily problems: Two trains leave stations 300 km apart, traveling toward each other. One travels at 60 km/h and the other at 90 km/h. How long until they meet?

And in all the other ways too: like paying for your lunch at the canteen, getting to class on time, wearing two shoes and one pair of pants. See, there are countless ways to weave maths into your week.

Yeah Penbank!

Congratulations Year 6s. The Penbank kids baked up quite a storm in support of the Wugubank Partnership t-shirts. A whopping $1,058 was raised! The money will be matched by the PFG to cover the costs of gifting t-shirts to the Wugularr community.
