Dear Minimbah families,
Our Year 3 and 4 students recently had the opportunity to participate in an exciting incursion hosted by Mad About Science, focusing on innovation and technology. During the 90-minute session, students explored how technology has evolved over time, the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in society and industry, the workings of computers, and the concept of biomimicry, where technology is inspired by the natural world. This workshop was directly linked to our Unit of Inquiry, ‘How the world works,’ which examines the impact of technology and innovation on our lives.
Student reflections
Charlie: In the Science and technology incursion we learnt how innovation has changed the world in many ways. For example, instead of typewriters we have computers and instead of CDs we have Disney and Spotify!
Scarlet: Today, we dove into the dazzling world of technology! The main focus was basically innovation. Innovation is like evolution, like when people upgraded from old TVs with no colour to a big flat screen tv with tons of apps and channels or from clothes lines to dryers!
Michael: Technology changed our world in very different ways for an example, we used to transmit Morse code to tell ... information [over a long distance] for an example this is what stop means:
... - --- .--. STOP
They would use this information to tell trains and other vehicles to stop.
Violet defined innovation as meaning “to change or to improve”. She believes, “we would struggle to get to school and make calls and even write without innovation.”
Enjoy a wonderful week
