Classroom Music Teacher (Trumpet)

Woodleigh School Senior Campus is seeking a Classroom Music Teacher (Trumpet) on a part-time (0.3FTE), fixed-term contract (Term 3 2021).

Position Summary

Woodleigh is looking for an experienced and passionate part-time music teacher specialising in trumpet, for the duration of Term 3, 2021. The required times are Tuesday mornings and all day Thursday. The successful candidate will have a warm and welcoming disposition, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a willingness to innovate and encourage the development of musicianship and technique, and an eagerness to participate in a flourishing music department. The position also requires 1:1 instrumental teaching (remunerated at VMTA sessional rates above allotted) and ensemble teaching. The successful applicant will also be required to contribute to the school’s Camp and Activities programs.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching music

  • Ensure that the Music classroom environment reflects the essential elements of the MYP curriculum and promotes a safe and engaging place of learning and discovery
  • Support the wider Woodleigh Music Programming, including concerts and performances, productions and assemblies
  • Support the integration of Music into the units of inquiry (MYP)
  • Be an advocate for and promote Music and The Arts within the wider Woodleigh community

Curriculum

  • Employ a range of effective teaching strategies to successfully implement the curriculum
  • Differentiate the curriculum to ensure individual needs of students in classes are met
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of curriculum within the Music department
  • Reflect and assess on the effectiveness of teaching

Assessment and Reporting

  • Embed a range of assessment practices appropriate to the classroom program
  • Monitor each student and provide meaningful feedback
  • Clearly articulate task requirements so each student can participate to the best of their ability
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with colleagues and parents concerning student progress
  • Write formal academic reports aligned to the Woodleigh Reporting Style Guide
  • Keep accurate records of communications regarding student progress

ICT

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the use of ICT activities in the classroom to enhance teaching and learning
  • Use a variety of meaningful ICT experiences in classroom practice
  • Demonstrate a continued development of ICT training as required
  • Work within the guidelines of the Woodleigh ICT policy

Learning Environment

  • Promote an engaging environment of dynamic, inquiry learning.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the Woodleigh Music Building and monitor spaces and equipment. 

Professional Development

  • Continually improve professional knowledge and practice, working within the MYP and Victorian Curriculum frameworks
  • Keep up to date with Australian and International Baccalaureate curriculum and resource development in Music
  • Set personal goals and in the area of professional learning and participate in the professional development processes used by Woodleigh
  • Maintain relationships with professional colleagues and associations

Experience and Skills

Must be able to demonstrate:

  • An understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children.
  • Demonstrate a high level of art classroom teaching skills and the capacity to work with colleagues to continually improve learning and teaching.
  • Demonstrate the ability to monitor and assess student learning data and to use this data to inform teaching for improved student learning.
  • Demonstrate a high level of written and verbal communication skills and a high level of interpersonal skills including a capacity to develop constructive relationships with students, parents and staff.
  • Demonstrate a commitment and capacity to actively contribute to a broad range of the School’s activities and a commitment to ongoing professional learning to enable further development of skills, expertise and teaching capacity.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the values and vision of Woodleigh School.
  • Relevant classroom teaching experience or experience working with children
  • Professional practice that is strongly aligned with the expectations of The Woodleigh Teacher

Education and Qualifications

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification in Education.

Conditions of Employment

  • A VIT Registration is required for this position.
  • Qualification and First Aid Training confirmation are required for this position.
