Woodleigh School Community Scholarships – Sudanese Students
For Entry into Year 7, 2021

As a result of two of our Community Scholarship awardees graduating at the end of 2020, the Woodleigh School Board is pleased to be able to offer two Community Scholarships to students of Sudanese origin. The Scholarships are for entry into Year 7, 2021, for students who do not currently attend the school, and who would otherwise be unable to attend.
Woodleigh School welcomes applications from students of Sudanese heritage, who feel that they have much to offer our school community. The Community Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of sound academic potential, a strong desire to learn and the willingness to fully participate in the co-curricular life of the school. A strong connection to their heritage, leadership skills, citizenship qualities, and a commitment to community service, are all key selection criteria. Students applying for the Community Scholarship are required to submit a portfolio providing evidence of their academic engagement, participation in local sport or community groups, their desire to serve others and of their efforts to make a positive contribution to their wider school community.
Boarding and homestay facilities are NOT available, so it is expected that applicants will live with their families/guardians within a commutable distance of the school.
Applications for the Year 7, 2021 Community Scholarships are now open and close on Friday 23 October 2020.
The following documents are required for each scholarship candidate:
- Completed Application for Enrolment (no application fee is required)
- A copy of the student’s Birth Certificate or Passport
- Evidence of the student’s Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency
- Cover letter outlining the student’s qualities and achievements including a photograph of the student
- Semester 1, 2020 full school report
- Semester 2, 2019 full school report
- Year 5 NAPLAN test results
- Year 3 NAPLAN test results
- Letter of recommendation from the student’s School Principal or Year 6 teacher
- Other documents providing evidence of the candidate’s commitment to and involvement in their local community
The candidate should also submit a written piece (no longer than 500 words) introducing themselves and telling us about their family or community. How would they make a positive contribution to the Woodleigh community?
Supporting documentation will not be returned, so please do not supply originals. Documents should be clearly named and A4 in size. Documents should be submitted to the Director of Enrolments, Woodleigh School, 485 Golf Links Road, Langwarrin South, 3911, by the closing date of Friday 23 October 2020. Applications will not be accepted after this date.
Alternatively, documents can be emailed to email@example.com by 5pm on Friday 23 October 2020. Supporting documents will not be considered after this time.
Inclusions & Expectations
Community Scholarships cover 100% of Tuition Fees and Consolidated Charges and are tenable through to the end of Year 12. The Student Entry Fee ($900.00) is waived for the successful applicants. Extra costs such as: PE/Sport uniforms, Activities weeks camps over $650 (negotiable) and optional fee charged Activities are not a part of the Tuition Fees, and are not covered by the scholarship, unless otherwise stated. Books and some music lessons are covered. The scholarships are awarded with the intention that the successful candidates will continue through to the end of Year 12 and is subject to annual review by the Principal.
If it is felt that the student’s work, behaviour, or attendance is below standard or inappropriate, the Principal reserves the right to withdraw the scholarship with reasonable notice. Applications for this Community Scholarship are only open to students not currently attending Woodleigh School, and who would otherwise be unable to attend.
Shortlisted applicants will be required to meet with one of the School’s Community Scholarship liaison officers.
Final round applicants will be interviewed by the Principal.
Scholarship offers are strictly confidential and are made at the discretion of the Principal. No correspondence will be entered into. All applicants will receive communication from the school advising the outcome of their application.
