After School Care Program

An After School Care Program is offered to Junior Campus students from 3.20 - 6.00pm on every school day. The program offers children from 4 Year Old ECC to Year 6 the opportunity of care in a secure environment.

Suitable activities are arranged catering for the different age groups present.

About the Program

The Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) Program operates each afternoon on school days from 3:20pm until 6:00pm.

The Program is coordinated and run by Camp Australia and is set up to cater for the childcare needs of parents who are working, studying, training to re-enter the workforce or actively seeking employment.  Casual use of the Program is available if places exist.

The Program receives no funding from either the State or Federal Government and therefore its continued operation is dependent on raising revenue through fees to cover staffing and operational costs.

Registration

All users of Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) must register for the program using the appropriate registration form prior to using the service.  Please see the Coordinator or collect a form from the Junior Campus Office.

Staffing

Activities and play are supervised by responsible adult care-givers with a ratio of one adult to fifteen children.  Depending on the numbers enrolled, the Program will run either as a single staff member model or two staff model.  When up to 15 children are enrolled, a single staff member model will operate.  When 16 to 30 children are enrolled at least two staff will be in attendance.  Camp Australia coordinates all staffing.

Venue

The program is generally held in the Support Services Room with the hall and the school grounds available for supervised use by the children in the Program.

Priority Access and Waiting List Policy

All children are provisionally enrolled in the Program and in the event that a child is not collected from School by 3:45pm on school days they will be placed in OSHC if places exist.  The normal fee for care applies in this situation.

Priority of access will be given to children whose parents both work or who are studying or training to enter or re-enter the workforce.  Casual use of the Program is permitted only if places exist.

Booking a place in the OSHC Program is essential.  Should all the Program places be filled a waiting list will be established or additional staff will be employed to allow for those children to access the Program.

Permanent Bookings

Parents may opt to make a permanent booking for their child/ren.  In the event that the child is ill or absent from the Program a cancellation fee of $14.00 per child will be charged, where not notified.  See details below.

Booking a place in the Program

To ensure a place and to enable the smooth running of the Program, parents must give, reasonable notice for occasional or part-time care requirements. An on-the-day booking must be made by 2:30pm of the day of care.  Messages can be left by phoning 9788 6416.

If children are unable to be catered for due to high enrolments on a particular day, in the first instance the child’s parent will be contacted.  If unavailable the ‘emergency contact’ nominated by you on the School’s medical information form will then be asked by the Coordinator to pick your child/ren up from school at 3:20pm and notify you of the change in arrangements.

Absences of children holding a permanent booking must be notified as soon as possible via the answering machine by phoning 9788 6416 by 6:00pm the previous day.

Cancellation Fees

For all permanent bookings, cancellations must be made by 6:00pm the previous day.  Cancellations after 6:00pm or on the day of care will incur the normal fee.

Fee Schedule

Current fees are listed below but these will be subject to increases in 2009.

Fees are charged on a sessional basis and are as follows:

  • $20.00 per child in care up to 6:00pm
  • $20.00 per child, cancellation fee where not notified  (permanent bookings only)
  • $1.00 late fee charged per minute, per child after 6:00pm.

Fee relief may be available for many parents through either the Childcare Assistance Scheme or the Childcare Rebate Scheme.  Information about these schemes are available from the OSHC staff.

Safety

A First Aid Kit is readily available to staff for treatment of minor injuries.  All staff hold appropriate work place first-aid certificates.  Common School Policy is followed in the event of a more serious injury.

Expectations of Behaviour

Normal school time behaviour is expected during the time of care.  Expectations are consistent with the three R’s.  Respect for self, respect for others and respect for the environment.

Parent Responsibility

Parents or a nominated adult must be responsible for collecting children from the Program by 6:00pm.  It is a legal requirement that a child be ‘signed out’ prior to leaving the program.  A late fee penalty of $1.00 per minute, per child will be incurred for children not collected by 6:00pm.  Parents must notify OSHC of any changes in routine or of any special requirements.

Payment of Accounts

Payment is due on receipt of account.  Cheques should be made payable to Woodleigh School.  Payment can be posted to the School, left with the Program Coordinator or left in the Junior Campus Office.
